As many of you know October is breast cancer awareness month. Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in the UK, with 1 in 8 women being diagnosed in their lifetime.
This year’s campaign has struck a particular impact with Purple Balm. Two of our Exeter office staff’s mums are currently in treatment. I’m sure the majority of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. Here are some stats from the Breast Cancer Care website here >
Please don’t forget about the men in your life. The diagnosis, treatment and aftercare can have a significant emotional pain on the partner, spouse, brother, son etc. Although over 99% of new cases of breast cancer are in women, there are 370 new cases of male breast cancer in the UK each year. Most men who get breast cancer are over 60. A Breast Cancer Care survey found that 73% of men don’t check their breasts for signs and symptoms of breast cancer, even though the same number (73%) know that men can get the disease.
However women are bad at checking their boobs too. A Breast Cancer Care survey found a 33% of women aren’t regularly checking. A 20% say it’s because they don’t know how to check their breasts. If this is you please clink on the link here and start checking them every month.
Purple Balm are hosting a breast cancer bra amnesty at our Newton Abbot and Exeter offices. Please bring in bras in any condition so that they can be recycled or given to those in need. PLEASE CHECK THOSE BOOBS EVERY MONTH and spread the word, check that your friends and family are also checking!
